Food Safety Program

This program deals with retail food establishments. They are inspected two times per year plus necessary follow-up inspections. The Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new buildings or alterations of existing retail food establishment buildings. Local Health Regulations require all persons invloved in the handling of food that is served to the public to participate in a basic food handlers’ course. Food handler classes and certification are now available online. Click here for info. Certification is valid for three (3) years. The fee for this class is $15. Local Health Regulations require all food service establishments in Montgomery County to be operated by a Certified Manager who shall be on the premises during all hours the establishment is open for business. Classes for food service managers are held every three months. Certification is valid for two(2) years. The class fee is $40. – More Information

Vending Machine Program

This program deals with machines that dispense potentially hazardous foods and drinks that are not prepackaged. Machines are inspected once every three years.

Hotel and Motel Facilities

This program involves an annual inspection and appropriate follow-up inspections for hotel and motel facilities. The Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new facilities and plans for alterations of existing facilities.- More Information.

Mobile Homes and Recreational Communities

This program involves an annual inspection and appropriate follow-up inspections for mobile home and recreational vehicle parks. The Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new parks as well as plans for alterations made to existing parks. – More Information

Swimming Pools and Bathing Facilities

This program involves two inspections per year and monthly monitoring of all public swimming pools, spas and beaches. The Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new pools as well as plans for alterations to existing pools. – More Information

Youth Camp Facilities

This program involves annual inspection of youth camp and day camp facilities. The Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new buildings or alterations of camps. – More Information

On Site Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems

The Environmentalist conducts site evaluations on lots before approval for the installation of an on site sewage disposal system. A permit is issued to the certified installer before the system is installed. Once installation in complete the Environmental conducts a final inspection of the system installation. – More Information

Local Board of Health Regulations require a minimum lot size of 0.75 acres to install an onsite sewage disposal system.

Private Water Supplies

Sample water from private drinking water supplies and test for coliform contamination. The fee for this service is $15.

Tattoo Body Piercing and Ear Piercing Program

This program involves semiannual inspection of tattoo, body piercing and ear piercing facilitites. The Health Environmental reviews construction plans for new buildings and alterations of existing facilites.

Rabies

The Health Environmentalist conducts investigations of animal bite reports and quarantines dogs, cats and ferrets for 10 days. – More Information

School Facilities

This program involves semiannual inspection of public and private school facilities used for educational purposes for grades K-12. The Health Environmentalist reviews construction plans for new buildings and alterations of existing buildings. – More Information

Septic Tank Cleaning Vehicles Program

This program involves annual inspection of vehicles that pump septic tanks and the disposal sites for the waste.

· Plus a per vehicle charge of $ 40

Private Sewage Program

This program deals with inspections of existing on site sewage disposal systems for mortgages or to obtain electric service. The Health Environmentalist also investigates complaints filed on failing systems. – More Information
